Eugene B. Redmond is a world-renowned Poet, Author, Photographer, Historian, Activist, and Playwright from East St. Louis, IL. He is also the Poet Laureate of East St. Louis and is Professor Emeritus of English at Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville.
Come join the Eugene B. Redmond Writer’s Club of East St. Louis for our incredible annual event: “Break Word with the World”, in which we will touch upon important events affecting us all in the year 2011. There will be live performances by the members of The Soular Systems Ensemble, as well as a Panel Discussion on “Activism & Artistic Expression”. And best of all, the whole event is free! This program will be hosted by Dr. Eugene B. Redmond and Club President Darlene Roy. I hope you can make it! It’s going to be a wonderful night!!
The Eugene B. Redmond Writer’s Club was created in 1986 and chartered by Redmond, Roy, and Sherman L. Fowler. Board Trustees include Dr. Maya Angelou, Amiri Baraka, Avery Books, Dr. Haki R. Madhubuti, Walter Mosley, Quincy Troupe, Jerry Ward, Jr., and Dr. Lena J. Weathers. The late Margaret Walker Alexander, Gwendolyn Brooks, Raymond Patterson, and Barbara Ann Teer were club trustees as well. This year marks the 25th year of the writer’s club’s existence.
Meetings are held at the SIUE-ESL Center for Higher Education every first and third Tuesday of the month from September-May. We meet in Room 2083, Building B, at 6 p.m. and meetings are open to all interested writers and poets.
